Set up Observability on GitLab.com

To set up GitLab Observability on GitLab.com, enable GitLab Observability for your group or for a project in your personal namespace.

Prerequisites:

  • You must have the Developer, Maintainer, or Owner role for the group.
  1. In the top bar, select Search or go to and find your group.
  2. In the left sidebar, select Observe > Setup.
  3. Select Enable Observability.
  4. After enabling, your OpenTelemetry (OTEL) endpoint URL is generated and displayed on the page.

Copy the OTEL endpoint URL to use when instrumenting your applications.

Prerequisites:

  • You must have the Owner role for the project.
  • The project must be in your personal namespace and not part of a group.
  1. In the top bar, select Search or go to and find your project.
  2. In the left sidebar, select Observe > Setup.
  3. Select Enable Observability.
  4. After enabling, your OpenTelemetry (OTEL) endpoint URL is generated and displayed on the page.

Copy the OTEL endpoint URL to use when instrumenting your applications.

Enabling Observability applies to all projects in your personal namespace.

If you have the Maintainer or Developer role for the project, you cannot enable Observability yourself. Ask the project owner to enable it.
